Daphne 35, Baldwin County 12: Trojans spoil McDaniel's return
DAPHNE, Alabama -- The Daphne Trojans spoiled Baldwin County coach Nathan McDaniel’s return to Trojan field with a 35-12 victory over the Tigers in Class 6A, Region 1 play Friday.
McDaniel was a defensive coordinator under Trojan coach Glenn Vickery.
For the Trojans, running back T.J. Reed led the way, rushing for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
The game was physical from the start. Baldwin County tried to dominate the run game, but the Trojan defense held strong. After four failed attempts on fourth down, the Tiger offense could not keep the momentum for long.
As the defense went, so did the passing game. Quarterback John Quinnelly finished the night with 135 yards passing and three touchdowns.
The Daphne rushing attack kept the ball in Trojan hands, leading to long drives. Daphne ended the night with 262 yards on the ground.
-- Next week: Daphne plays host to Leflore at home, while Baldwin County ends the season at home versus Robertsdale.
