DAPHNE, Alabama – The Saraland vs. Daphne game on Aug. 29 at Jubilee Stadium in Daphne has been selected for the 11th annual Great American Rivalry Series.
It will be the first meeting between the two schools and also will open the Class 6A, Region 1 schedule for the Trojans and Spartans. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
This game was selected as one of the top 100 must-see match ups for the Series. The winning team earns year-long bragging rights and the Great American Rivalry Series Champions trophy, presented by the Marines. The game’s Most Valuable Player and the top student-athlete from each school are also recognized as part of the series.
Also, two alumni will be inducted into the Great American Rivalry Series Hall of Fame.
Jeff Kelly’s Saraland team is coming off a 12-2 season a year ago in which the Spartans made the Class 5A semifinals. Glenn Vickery’s Daphne team went 8-3 in 2013, winning Class 6A, Region 2 for the second straight year.

The Series is holding a ‘Fan Photo of the Game’ contest that will take place at every game. Each winning fan will be included in the Fan Photo of the Year poll. The winner will be named the Great American Rivalry Fan of the Year!

Daphne, Baldwin County only unbeaten teams after Day 1 of Gulf Coast Qualifier
FOLEY, Alabama – Daphne and Baldwin County are the only unbeaten teams remaining after one day of pool play in the Gulf Coast 7-on-7 Regional Qualifier in Foley. The Trojans and Tigers each went 4-0 on Thursday. They will play at 9 a.m. Friday as pool play continues.
“We play Daphne first tomorrow and then Carver-Montgomery,” Baldwin County coach Nathan McDaniel said. “That’s going to be big-boy football. We’ll find out real quick where we stand.” The tournament includes 16 teams from Alabama, Florida and Louisiana. The winner advances to the National Select 7-on-7 tournament in Hoover next week.

SCHEDULE & RESULTS
EIGHT MILE, Alabama -- Daphne's T.J. Reed scored on a 6-yard run on the second play in overtime to give the Trojans a 31-25 victory over Blount Friday night.
Reed finished with 245 yards on 38 carries, including 130 yards and both touchdowns after halftime. the Trojans overcame a 19-7 deficit.
Kadarius Toney completed 13 for 20 205 yards for the Leopards.
-- Play of the Game: Trailing 25-17, Daphne's John Quinnelly connected with Keyonte Mitchell with 27 seconds remaining. Reed added the 2-point conversion, capping a six-play, 58-yard drive to tie the game and send to overtime.

Saraland 35, Daphne 28: Long, Weaver run Spartans past Daphne
DAPHNE, Alabama – Saraland coach Jeff Kelly told his team all week to keep throwing punches and keep fighting against Class 6A, Region 1 rival Daphne on Friday night at Jubilee Stadium.

The Spartans scored 21 unanswered points to take control of the game, then made a defensive stand deep in their own territory was time expired, escaping with a dramatic 35-28 win in the AL.com’s Coastal Alabama Game of the Week.
